Interview with Jeremy McCormick

How did you come to be a part of “Songs of Ascent”?
I’ve been good friends with Markus (the producer) for a while. We toured together for about 2 years. Ever since then we have been real good friends, so when he asked me to be a part of this project I was all about it.

Anything unique about the tones you used for this record?
Well, I used one of my favorite kits I own which is a 61’ rogers. I love it so much. Used a few different snares and muted some drums with some bandanas.

What role does your faith play in your creative line of work?
The best way I can describe it is from the film Chariots of Fire, “When I run, I feel his pleasure.” I guess in this case it is when I play.

How long does it take you to load your drums in your car?
I honestly have gotten better at it over time. When I had a truck I could do it in 15 min, but when I first got my Subaru (Tiger Lilly) it took about 20 minutes, but now I can pretty much do it the same time when I had my truck.

What’s your favorite track on Songs of Ascent?
“You Gave”- the feel of it is just awesome.

Where can we hear more of your music?
I actually have a site that you can keep up with what I have been doing at SpotMcCormick.com. There is a playlist you can check out there.
